Lapboard

Invite-only lap timing

Lap times checked against the raw GPS.

Lapboard is a GPS lap and stage timer for club motorsport, plus a leaderboard that only ranks a time once the server has recomputed it from the timer’s own GPS log.

What Lapboard is

Three parts that work together, built for small clubs that want honest results without official timing gear.

The timer
A small in-car unit with a GPS receiver. You mark start, sector and finish gates once, then it times every run against them, shows how you’re tracking against your best, and logs the raw GPS data to an SD card.
The verifier
When you upload a lap, the server replays it from the GPS data using the same gate logic as the timer. If the numbers match and the data looks genuine, the lap is marked verified.
The leaderboard
Invite-only groups. Each driver’s best verified lap per track, with sector splits and the gap to the leader. Only members of a group see that group’s board.

Where it fits

What it is not for

Not for public roads. Lapboard is for closed courses and permitted events. It must not be used to race, run speed trials or time yourself on public roads. It is not official timing, and it is not a safety device.

How a lap gets ranked

  1. SS1

    Drive

The timer in the car records each lap against fixed gates and logs the raw GPS stream to its SD card.

  2. SS2

    Upload

Add the SD card files on the portal. Your browser sends only each lap’s slice of the log, never your whole driving history.

  3. SS3

    Checked

The server replays the lap from the GPS data. If the replayed time matches and the data looks real, the lap is ranked. If not, it isn’t, and you’re told why.

What “verified” means

What the check does

  • Recomputes the lap and sector times from the GPS log.
  • Checks the data quality: satellites, accuracy, update rate and gaps near the gates.
  • Checks that speed and position agree and that the motion is physically plausible.
  • Tells you why a lap wasn’t ranked.

What it can’t do

  • Prove the GPS signal itself is genuine. Someone determined enough to feed the timer a fake signal could get a false lap through.
  • Provide official or legally binding times. GPS timing typically has an uncertainty of around a tenth of a second, so very close times can’t truly be separated.
  • Catch everything. The checks will improve, and rankings can change if a lap is later found to be invalid.

Questions

Who can join?

It is invite only. A group admin sends you an invite code, and you must be 18 or over.

Is the leaderboard public?

No. You sign in, and you only see the boards of groups you belong to.

What data does it keep?

Your account (a username and a hashed password), the timer licence you activate, your lap and sector times, and a short slice of the GPS log for each lap you upload. The privacy policy has the details and your choices.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. Email [[CONTACT_EMAIL]] and we’ll delete your account, laps and GPS slices.

How accurate is it?

Good enough to compare runs at a club event, but not official timing. See “What verified means” above.

Is it affiliated with anyone?

No. Lapboard is an independent project. It isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by any motorsport body, manufacturer or event organiser.
